The charity provides housing for people of good character in need of assistance in accordance with the charity’s Governing Document. It is not a nursing, convalescent nor old people's home, but a Christian Community providing housing and a retirement community. The admission criteria, which can be varied at the discretion of the Trustees, are set out on page 4 of the  Community Handbook.

VACANCY FOR NEW CLERK TO THE TRUSTEES

The Trustees of St Nicholas Hospital are seeking to appoint a Clerk as the paid part-time (15 hours per week) administrator of the Hospital who will be directly responsible for the administration of the charity (finance, personnel, facilities management, supervision of the self-employed gardeners and cleaners and general administration). They will also act as clerk to the Trustees’ meetings.

There are 24 self-contained mostly single-bedroom apartments set in small blocks and is a flourishing and vibrant Christian community of men and women.

Vacancies

All applications are reviewed according to need, the suitability of the accommodation available, and the interests of the Community.

The Chapel

There is a daily Chapel service in St. Nicholas' Chapel, which is either a Eucharist or a simple version of Morning Prayer (Common Worship).

History

The Hospital is associated with the fictional fosterchild Anthony Trollope's Barchester, as the original of the institution so vividly described in The Warden.
